This is the full narrative report of the CENGOs Nigeria on the project: “Post Beijing] + 10 Conference – A review and appraisal of major events and resolutions at the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the status of Women”. It is a women’s rights/empowerment project implemented by CENGOs, with support from the Global Fund for Women in 2005 project year.
Between February 28 to March 11, 2005 the Beijing + 10 Review Conference was held at the 49th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, and CENGOs participated in the events. It indeed sent six members, representing six states of the federation, to the New York Conference with support from the Global Fund for Women.
In order to replicate the gains made by our participants at the Conference for the benefit of other women and men who could not attend the Review Meeting, CENGOs Nigeria decided to implement a Post Beijing + 10 Review Project across the country. A grant of $30,000, (Grant number 05-27835R, was secured from the Global Fund for Women in August, 2005 for towards the implementation of the project.
The Project covered a period of six months, that is September, 2005 to February, 2006. Three Capacity Building Workshops were held in (i) Enugu, for South-East and South-South geo-political zones; (ii) Lagos, for South-West and (iii) Jos, for North Central Zones, respectively. Step-down workshops took place in the nine states comprising the South-East and South-South geo-political Zones of Nigeria. On the whole, the project had covered twenty-two states of the Federation including Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos, the economic nerve center of Nigeria.
