The Coalition of Eastern NGOs (CENGOS) is an umbrella organization of over 100 NGOs in the nine States of the old Eastern Region (Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa) with the mandate to promote and protect the human rights of Nigerian citizens and build the capacity of civil society. CENGOS was established in year 2000 and is registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. It is also in the process of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Registration is stalled because the CAC has advised adjustment in the name, as they would not register a name with the word ‘coalition’.

The members of the Coalition of Eastern NGOs comprising over 120 NGOs operating in the nine States of the Old Eastern Region of Nigeria decries the spate of air crashes in Nigeria and calls on President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to do something concrete to sanitise the aviation sector.

This is the full narrative report of the CENGOS Nigeria on the project: “Post Beijing] + 10 Conference – A review and appraisal of major events and resolutions at the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the status of Women”.  It is a women’s rights/empowerment project implemented by CENGOS, with support from the Global Fund for Women in 2005 project year.

Between February 28 to March 11, 2005 the Beijing + 10 Review Conference was held at the 49th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, and CENGOS participated in the events. It indeed sent six members, representing six states of the federation, to the New York Conference with support from the Global Fund for Women.
